A grade of 89.50 percent or higher
earns an A grade; 79.50 to 89.49 percent earns a B grade; 69.50 to 79.49
percent earns a C grade; 59.50 to 69.49 percent earns a D grade. A minimum
grade of C is required in major courses or courses that are prerequistes for
advanced courses. If you keep up with
the homework each week then you can expect to have an A in the grades that
are updated each Monday night of the week, a few minutes after class begins,
as viewed on MyPortal: http://myportal.heald.edu/ps/signon.html SPECIAL
NOTE: In S101 students must keyboard at 35 words per minute (see paragraph
below *) on two different 5-minute timed writings (timings), back to back
continuously, with no more than 3
errors or they receive an Incomplete (I) in the course no matter what grade
they have. Students who receive an
Incomplete will be assigned to a P010 Workshop in the following quarter. As soon as students meet the 35 words per
minute goal in P010, they receive a grade for S101 Keyboarding. If a student does not meet the required
S101 keyboarding speed by the end of the quarter following S101, the student
will be given an “F” in S101. Students
in this category must repeat S101 Keyboarding. For this reason, we will begin practicing
for this the week after you take your Mid Terms. * Graduation requirements vary from major to
major. For most “business” programs the requirement is 40 wpm. (You must determine this for your
particular major.) |

Makeup
exams |
Each student
has the opportunity to make up one exam per course. Students should consult
with their instructor for make up policies for this course. |

Alternative
Credit |
A
challenge exam is available. It may be
taken before the start of the quarter or early in the first week of
instruction. Please see the Director of Academic Affairs or your instructor
for more information. |

|
Attendance |
Policies and standards at Students are required to attend all
classes daily and are expected to be ready for class at the scheduled time.
The student’s participation in class is essential to success in academic
achievement and in the workplace. The official student transcript reflects
both an academic grade and an attendance percentage for each class. Please

For each week it is announced, the Keyboard Quizzes will involve knowing progressively more and more
about each key on the keyboard (memorization). Activities for the following weeks may be shifted to different
time intervals as class progress dictates from your instructor’s viewpoint; however, any changes will be
announced at least one week in advance. You are expected to finish homework by midnight of the Friday

6, 1 (page 32) Quiz this week per last
week’s notes. If you do any of these at
home then you can print out what you did by viewing your “portfolio”, then
while holding down the Alt key press Prt Sc “print
screen” to put a copy of it into memory, then open up MS Word and click the
paste button to paste it into Word.
Then you can just print it and bring it in as proof that you finished them [i.e. don’t
try to export them to a floppy at home and then come to school to import the
logs]. J |

Week 7 September 5 – 9 |
Lesson 15 Lesson 16 Our First 5-Minute Timings! |
Lesson 15 and 16 this
week. This is the first time we
officially take time out in the class and do 5-Minute Timings this week. J Remember
that you need to do 2
of the 5-Minute Timings (chosen in class) at a minimum speed of
35 WPM with 3 errors or less accuracy by the end of this course. I will be showing the class how to print
out the timings in a larger font via visiting the Glencoe web site shown at
the front of your GDP book, selecting Speed and Accuracy, double clicking the
file you want, clicking the lower option button to open the file with a
program of your choosing, and then selecting MS Word. You then delete all of the text (for the
first 3 pages) that is obviously not part of your timing, select all of the
text in the document, and select a larger font from the font size pull-down
selection list. Notes: As you know, you
can work on your homework at “home” by installing the GDP software (CD that
came with your kit) per the instructions in the GDP book (it’s easy to install J). Then you
can do the work, select File à Portfolio à Ok and slide to the group of Lesson steps you
would like to print. Then hold down
your Alt key and press PrtSc, which puts a copy of
the screen in memory. Then go into MS
Word and click the Paste button to paste what is in memory onto the
screen. Now you can print it out to
prove you did the homework. J |
|
Weeks 8 and 9 September 12 - 23 |
Unit 4 – Keyboarding: The Symbols |
Lesson 17 will be due by
September 23. You must practice the 5-minute
Timings for the files Business01, Business02, Business03, Business04, and Business06
that we downloaded from www.gdp.glencoe.com.
** For the timings to
count you “must” let me know just before you would like to take the timings “for
the record”. I will then give you 2 “random”
timings (you may not choose the ones you wish to do) for you to test with. For Practice: A) Click on Skillbuilding and select 1-Minute Timings B) Notice that the second
list shows 1-J., 2-G., 3-G., 4-H., and 5-G. to correspond to each of the
1-Minute Timings in your green Gregg College Keyboarding book for each of the
lessons completed last week. Each of these
has a red “Goal”. For instance, on
page 4 for 1-J. you have a red “Goal: At least 10 wpm/1’/3e”. This means that you must achieve 10 words
per minute / in 1 minute / 3 (e)rrors
maximum. C) You should achieve the
goal for each of these 1-Minute Timings you practiced last week. Skillbuilding by Eide text Entry Timing, Page 2 If you were not here when
we did so, download the example of a 5-minute timing used for passing this
course from the textbook web site at www.gdp.glencoe.com and select Interactive Activities, then Speed and
Accuracy, then Business 01 file which will start the download of this
file. The file will then be stored in
the c:\GDP9-Home\ctw subdirectory (or wherever you installed it at home) and
then I will give you a copy of this file (if you can figure out at home how
to create a working copy of the file by opening it up in Notepad and deleting
the extra characters, you can use that) so that you can practice this
Timing. Then you will enter this
Timing by selecting Timings, then Custom Timings,
then click OK and your file will show up as a 5-Minute timing. |

Week 10 September 26 - 30 |
|
Lesson 17 and practice the
5 Minute Timings! (Surprised? J ) Do Skillbuilding
Exercises (pages 4, 6, 8, 10) |
|
Week 11 October 3 – 5 |
Skillbuilding Exercises / Timing Practice Final Timed Writings |
All we do this week is
practice 5-min. timings and you will have opportunities to pass one of them
for the quarter early. You need to
have 35 wpm with 3 errors or less, and you can not take the 5-min. timing for
the course until I know that you are doing this (the moment before your
attempt I will give you the “okay” after looking to see that your attempt is
legitimate). With so many at better
than 35 wpm, and considering that almost everyone does pass this, I am expecting
many to finish with this early so that you don’t have to wrestle with it in
the final week. Last day to attempt Final
Timings is the Friday of this week |
